I am very excited to announce that I will be hosting Theophilus “Theofo” Akpeni Tettey in November! Theofo will be giving performances and masterclasses at area high schools around the Kalamazoo and West Michigan area. You can see Theofo live at the Van Singel Fine Arts Center in Byron Center, MI on November 29, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. or at Portage Northern High School, time and date TBD. Theofo was born in a strong traditional home in Accra, Ghana, West Africa. Theofo and his entire family are in African traditional spirituality, including his mother, father, and grandmother. Theofo is an authentic musician with 30 years of experience in African traditional music and dance. He drums to call and connect to our ancestors through rhythms. Theofo has professionally performed and travels around the world to places such as Australia, Japan, and other African countries. He performs healing and rituals with music and has worked with bands such as the Kusun Ensemble, Anaglo Cultural Group, and One Spirit Africa. Support provided by the Kalamazoo Artistic Development Initiative, a program of the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo.

Join myself and the University Symphonic Band at Miller Auditorium on October 17, 2022 at 7:00pm. The concert will include performances by the University Symphonic Band, the University Concert Band, and the University Wind Symphony. The program will include works by Katahj Copley, Karl King, Brian Balmages, Frank Ticheli, and Viet Cuong!
